Welcome to San Antonio Bird Control: Prevention and Removal of Unwanted Birds

Our company specializes in resolving problems caused by birds in San Antonio, Texas, both residential and commerical. We handle bird species such as pigeons, starlings, grackles, sparros, and even Canada Geese and woodpeckers. We generally don't kill birds - we prevent them from causing problems. Most commonly, this means that we install barriers that prevent them access to your building or property, or anti-roosting devices that prevent them from landing, nesting, or roosting on your home, store, building, or anywhere. We use netting, needle strips, shock track, and more. We do offer trapping in some cases, and removal of birds from warehouses, grocery stores, or other commerical or industrial buildings by netting or sometimes pellet shooting. We have a wide variety of tools and methods for solving every manner of bird problem. Call us at 726-610-3952 to discuss your bird problem today.

Methods for Control of Pigeons

Let's face it; pigeons are some of the worst animals imaginable to have making a regular visit in or around your property. They are filthy animals, often referred to as the rats of the birth world. They make horrific messes, leave their waste everywhere, and carry a large number of diseases and parasites that can be quite hazardous to you, your family, and your pets. This is why so many want to ensure that pigeons do not congregate around their home or other property.

What makes them an even greater challenge is the fact that pigeons often travel in large colonies. This can mean that you don't just have small messes around your home; instead you have a whole lot of them everywhere as dozens, if not hundreds of pigeons are there to turn your dream home into a house of horrors.

You want to do all that you can to keep these creatures away, and here are some tips for you that can stop them from returning to your home.

Let's start with a little reality first. There are lots of different products out there that swear that they have the solution to keep pigeons from coming to your home. The truth of the matter is that most of them are quite useless in resolving your issue. They mean well, but they have no real solution to resolve the problem at all. This means you may have to use a little bit of your own innovation to handle the problem.

The first place to begin is to ensure that the pigeons have no place to comfortably land and perch around your house. This can be resolved with a little bit of your own time and effort. If you have watched pigeons walking around the edge of the building or on a balcony, you notice that they are looking for some spot where they can comfortably stand and even walk around a bit. What you want to do is take this away from them.

It starts by creating some long boards that have males that are sticking out from one side of the board. Once you have constructed this with several long nails sticking out, you then attach the word to your balcony or ledge. The bird is not going to land there because it cannot safely do so. This will cause it to look somewhere else so that they can find a more hospitable area to reside. Fortunately for you, that will not be your home.

Pigeons are also looking for an area to create a home where they can nest. You want to ensure that you don't give them any such location on your property. This means that you want to make sure that there are no places in your home itself where the pigeon gets in and create a little nest area. Loose boards in the siding of your home, gaps or cracks, or holes that lead into the walls or the attic are the ideal way for one of these birds to find a way into your home. Once it has done so they can be quite difficult to get out.

This is also true of your shed or garage. They pose greater challenges because it is quite often the case that the doors to these two structures are open; the bird can simply fly in and create a nest area for itself. This means that you need to go through and remove any places that provide a quiet location for the bird to build a nest. Thing to consider is that if one bird has found a way in and is comfortable many more will follow. You need to stop that from occurring.

Now that you've removed the places that it could be comfortable at, your next step is to do the things that will make it so that it is scared to return. One of the best solutions to this kind of problem is to get yourself a dog. Not just a tiny little dog either; you need a rather large dog that will scare these animals away. While it is true that the pigeon can fly away or live up in the tree areas around your home, the fact of the matter is that they like to be on the ground to be able to get at food sources that they see available to them there. When your dog comes chasing after them it is not going to stay on the ground for very long. Since it cannot get food there it will eventually move on.

This discussion also pointed out one problem you still may be facing. If there are a lot of trees around the property of your home then you may be giving these birds a location where they can set up their own nest. You may need to take some action to either remove out some of the branches of your trees or to cut down the trees altogether. This may sound like a very drastic step, but if you are intending to keep these birds away from your property you may have to take this kind of action.

Trees can also be treated with a special kind of chemical that will make it unpalatable for the pigeons to remain. These treatments need to be done regularly but they can be quite effective in helping you to resolve your issue.
